Run for a Seat
Running for a seat on the Elysian Valley Riverside Neighborhood Council is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in our vibrant community. As a board member, you will have the chance to represent the voices of your neighbors, advocate for local issues, and help shape initiatives that enhance the quality of life in Elysian Valley.
Can I run?
Membership on the Council is open to all Elysian Valley Stakeholders—meaning those who live, work, or own property or a business within our boundaries, as well as to “community interest stakeholders,” such as church members, local students (or parents of students), or members of local service organizations. The minimum age to run for most NC seats is 18, except for Youth Seat candidates, who may be between the ages of 14-17.
Candidates and voters need not be US citizens or legal residents to qualify. Participation is also open to the formerly incarcerated.
You will need to provide documentation verifying your stakeholder status, as well as your age, before your candidacy is certified .
What is required of Board Members?
If elected, you will be required to complete five mandatory City trainings in order to vote on items at Board meetings. For more information on these trainings, go to : https://neighborhoodempowerment.lacity.gov/nctrainings/

Request Your Ballot
Every vote counts, and participating in elections empowers you to influence the direction of the Elysian Valley community. This year, Neighborhood Council elections in Los Angeles will all follow Vote-By-Mail (VBM) protocols. This means that voters must apply for a ballot in order to cast their vote. Make sure to secure your ballot and be part of the decision-making process!
You can request your ballot two ways: either through the Online VBM Portal, or by mailing in a paper application, both of which can be accessed through the link below. Hard copies can also be picked up from the Elysian Valley Recreation Center, 1811 Ripple St.
After your application is processed, you will be mailed a ballot packet with instructions, along with a pre-paid return envelope. You can either mail your ballot using the US Postal Service, drop it off at the Ballot Box located at the Elysian Valley Recreation Center, or take your ballot directly to the City Clerk Election Office. You can also designate an authorized agent to return your ballot for you.
To vote in the election, you must be at least 16 years old and a Stakeholder (ie., anyone who lives, works, or owns real property within the boundaries of EVRNC), unless you are voting for a Youth Seat, in which case you must be at least 14 years old.
You do not need to be a US citizen or legal resident to participate in the Neighborhood Council as a candidate or voter, however, you will need to attest to your stakeholder status, as well as your age, to qualify to vote in the neighborhood council elections.
Vote-By-Mail Application begins February 28, 2025 and ends April 20, 2025.
